Closet EDITion

It's a little past Spring Cleaning time and normally you're dusting, rearranging and reorganizing your house but what about your bedroom closet? Did you forget about that space?  It's one of our favorite space, we spend a lot in our closet so maybe that's where more of our attention should go.  A good rule of thumb is to clean your closet every 6 months.

Now you might be thinking "Where do I even start?" Well after these quick tips you'll end up with a much needed edited closet.

1. Set aside a large area like your bed and divide into 4 sections.

2. Take out every piece of clothing in your closet. Every piece.

3. Section 1: If you try something on that's ripped or stained beyond repair, throw it in a trash bag (or see if there's a way to update, i.e. jean pants to jean shorts - see Lauren Conrad's tutorial here.

4.  Section 2: If you try something on and don't love it right away - send it on it's way to another owner who will love it.  This is your Goodwill pile (or consignent shop to get some $$ back).  Don't hold on to a piece of clothing if you think you'll wear it.  You won't so let it go.

5. Section 3: You're good but not great section.  If you try on something that's ill fitting, this will be your To-the-Tailor group.

6. Section 4: If you try on something that doesn't look great on you but you know a friend would love it - wrap it up and put a bow on it.

7.  Section 5: If you try on something that you haven't worn in a while and you're not sure if you should part with it just yet, place it in a duffel bag.  With this set of clothes, place it in your closet or under your bed.  Come back to it in six months and see how you feel about the clothing then.  What you really want - keep and what you don't seem to need - send to Goodwill.

8. Section 6: Last but not least - the Winners.  These lucky pieces have earned a place back in your wardrobe (and there might be a few you forgot about).

Good luck editing!

  1. so need to and going to do this...once i fit into all of my clothes again. i used to have a rule (because i really have too many clothes) that if i bought something new, i had to get rid of something of the same sort that i didn't wear anymore (buy new jeans, give away an old pair)...buuutt, the giving away part just never happened
